Using traditional and modern skills to restore, improve and create habitats for biodiversity, along with improving mental health, creating community and establishing wider networks for nature recovery

Our Commitment to Nature and Community

We work to restore and improve woodlands and habitats for biodiversity in West Sussex, through coppicing, hedgelaying, woodland management and habitat creation.

Our two operational models are social forestry, and contracted professionals.

Social forestry harnesses the power of the community, using hand tools, to restore and create habitats to help biodiversity. This has a real impact on our mental and physical health, through time outdoors and in community.

The model brings people together through common interest and puts woods in their rightful place at the heart of the community.

We run regular community sessions and provide tools, full training, food and drinks. Sharing food is a vital part of our ehtos and we're not bad cooks if we say so ourselves!

We also operate as contracted qualified professionals offering woodland management and timber extraction and processing via our fleet of vehicles and through horse-logging.

Our partners and supporters include the Wiston Estate, the Lost Woods of the Low Weald and Downs project, Weald to Waves, Making It Out and the University of Brighton.

We are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund for our Wiston project.
